Church History
Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church was organized on the first Sunday in October
1933 by the late Rev. James Dockins Sr. The first sanctuary was constructed in
Minoch, Texas but was destroyed by fire. The second building was
constructed on Hollins Lane. This building was constructed around 1970 by
Brother Justice, Deacon Willie Leveston and his wife, Pleasant Leveston, Deacon
John Elmore, Deacon J.C. Moaning, Elder Mills and many others. Once a framed
building, now is bricked under the leader of Pastor Will J. Jones.
The Founders Were:
Pastor James Dockins, Sr. - Deceased
Sister Rhodessa Amerson-Green - (Galveston) Deceased
Sister Kindness Sommons-Hadnot - Cleveland, Texas
Sister Cassie Jackson- Deceased
Sister Clydie Lee Drew-McDonald - (Dallas) Deceased
Sister Edna Pierson - Deceased
Sister Flossie Anderson-Pierson - (Tamina)Deceased
Sister Inell Simmons-Thomas - (Tamina) Deceased

In those days, there was a community called Minox; today we call such communities
sub-divisions. Their church building was near the Missouri Pacific railroad tracks.
The grass on the railroad track was destroyed by setting it on fire. One day fire from
the railroad tracks got out of hand and destroyed the church in Minox.
Rev. Dockins loved to conduct revivals so after the church in Minox was destroyed, he and
his members came to Tamina Tabernacle Baptist Church with the intention of holding a
revival service there. When the pastor of the Tamina Tabernacle was not in accord with
Rev. Dockins Sr. conducting a revival in their church, they build a brush harbor and conducted
meetings under this when the weather was fair. When it rained, they went in a school house that was
near-by.
Seven people joined this church which was Minoch. They didn't want to walk to Minox for every
service so they decided to build a church here in Tamina-The Lone Star Baptist Church. It was not
sunshine all the way, some raindrops fell in their pathway, but through the help of God,
Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church has come from a brush harbor to the brick building we have today.
